If you’ve been a manager for long, you’ve probably had to fire someone. Or, perhaps you are considering or preparing to fire someone now.
Just because you’re not the focus doesn’t mean you don’t feel anxious about the situation. Gain some perspective by looking at the situation from the other person’s point of view and remember to acknowledge and accept your feelings and take care of your needs.
If so, you may well be experiencing some anxiety about it, the way a couple of people I spoke with recently were.
Winston Churchill said, “When going through hell, keep going,” and he was right. Despair can be that hell – the feeling that life will always be as awful as it is right now,
Especially in our darkest, most bleak moments, we have to keep putting one foot in front of the other; it’s the only way to move through hell to where better times wait.
that nothing will ever change, and perhaps even that you don’t deserve any other kind of life. That’s the funny thing about hell, you can’t tell how big it is or how long the journey through it until that day when you can look back and realize it is now behind you.

Every one of those deaths – including Adam Lanza’s – represents a family that is now facing the holiday season with a heart burdened by the senseless absence of a loved one. They bear a particular sorrow of knowing the death was as the result of a criminal and violent act.
