If You Want to be Happy, Learn to be Grateful

If you believe that you’re supposed to be happy, then you want to know this: if you want to be happy, learn to be grateful. It’s being grateful that puts you on the one-way

It’s easy to feel happy about big things like a negative medical test result or a long-sought and deserved pay raise. If you want to feel happy all the time, learn to be grateful for the small things in life.

road to happiness. You can’t reach happiness any other way. And, you will never reach gratitude if you wait until you feel happy. This is true for the simple reason that happiness comes from within, not from what or who is around you or things that happen to you or that don’t happen to you.

Listening and Learning for Lent

Listening is one of my 3 words for 2015.

Sometimes, all you really need is for someone to hear you out.

Listening is something I want to do better this year. In the same way that some people vow to get more exercise or sleep or to spend less time gaming, I’m focused on listening.

This is my focus for the 46 days of Lent that began on February 18, Ash Wednesday. Conventional wisdom says that it takes 21 days to establish a new habit, so at double that, I figure I stand half a chance of realizing success. (Trust me, the math works if you didn’t really listen to what I just said.)
